Mary Frank Students Continue to Outpace State on 2026 IREAD

Posted on August 26, 2026

Mary Frank Elementary students continued to perform above the state on the 2026 IREAD assessment, with 88.9% of students passing.

Mary Frank’s passing rate was slightly higher than Indiana’s statewide rate of 88.7%.

While this year’s results are down from 2025’s pass rate of 98.2%, teachers remain  focused on using student data to strengthen literacy instruction and provide targeted support to help every student grow as a reader.

Across Penn-Harris-Madison, 94.7% of students passed IREAD in 2026, 6 percentage points higher than the state average. Ten of P-H-M’s 11 elementary schools performed above the statewide passing rate.

“We are proud of these results, but our work does not stop here,” said Superintendent Dr. Heather Short. “We will continue to use student data to identify opportunities for growth, strengthen instruction, and make sure every child has the opportunity to become a confident and capable reader.”

P-H-M continues to prioritize research-based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading, providing educators with professional learning, instructional resources, and opportunities to collaborate around student data and effective instructional practices.

The district also administers IREAD to all second grade students, giving teachers and families an early indicator of whether students are on track to read proficiently by the end of third grade. In 2026, 72.1% of P-H-M second graders passed IREAD a year early.

Mary Frank’s teachers will continue building on the school’s strong foundation in literacy while identifying opportunities to support continued student growth and achievement.
