Mary Frank is one of Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation’s 11 elementary schools. P-H-M has consistently received an “A” rating from the Indiana Department of Education since 2011. P-H-M serves more than 11,100 students in its 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and Penn High School. With the release of the Spring 2019 ILEARN results, P-H-M ranks 12th in the state for combined ELA & Math scores in grades 3-8, and Mary Frank ranks #8. Mary Frank’s 3rd grade English/Language Arts ILEARN scores are also the highest in the entire state!
For the 2018-19 School Year, Mary Frank received an “B” rating from the IDOE.
*Because COVID-19 shut down Indiana schools in the Spring of 2020, students did not take statewide assessments for the 2019-2020 school year.

History
Mary Frank Elementary School opened in 1958 and underwent a complete renovation in 1982 with the addition of a new gymnasium and eighteen additional classrooms.

Academic Programs
Mary Frank students in grades one through five receive instruction from specialists in music and physical education. Each class visits the Instructional Materials Center (IMC) on a weekly basis. Students are encouraged to borrow books for recreational and informational reading. Mary Frank provides an inclusive environment where students with special needs are taught in regular classrooms. Support services are provided for students with learning disabilities, speech and hearing difficulties, and other areas of exceptionality.
Parent Involvement
The Mary Frank PTA sponsors a parenting resource center in addition to a variety of field trips and programs. Our Winter Craft Night, Family Dinner Nights, Summer Send-Off, and the Fifth Grade Recognition Program are examples of popular activities sponsored by the PTA. Our PTA sponsors the “Reflections” creativity contest for all students as well as a citizenship essay writing contest for fourth and fifth grade students. Families also participate in a variety of school-sponsored activities during National TV Turn-Off Week in April. Parents also volunteer to work in the Instructional Materials Center, in the Art Smart Program, and in classrooms. In 2004, members of the PTA won national recognition from Midwest Living magazine for a program to encourage volunteers in the school.
Honors and Achievements
In the fall of 1996, Mary Frank was named an Indiana Blue Ribbon School, a recognition received by only 11 other schools in the state. Mary Frank was a recipient of the Indiana Four Star School Award in 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2006. In 2005, the Mary Frank PTA received the Outstanding Unit Award in Indiana.
